Abstract:
Provided are: a novel method for controlling the concentration of free chlorine easily; a sterilization method employing the method; and a novel apparatus for controlling the concentration of free chlorine easily. In the disclosed method, the concentration of free chlorine is controlled using multiple electrodes. The method comprises step (i) and step (ii) in this order. In step (i), the potential of a first anode and the potential of a first cathode are adjusted in an aqueous solution (30) containing chlorine ions so as to increase the concentration of free chlorine in the aqueous solution (30). In step (ii), the potential of a second anode and the potential of a second cathode are adjusted in the aqueous solution (30) so as to decrease the concentration of free chlorine in the aqueous solution (30). The difference between the potential of the second anode and the potential of the second cathode in step (ii) is smaller than the difference between the potential of the first anode and the potential of the first cathode in step (i).
