The present invention relates to method and apparatus for disinfecting solid substance or solid substance containing liquid substance efficiently in a short period of time so as to prevent the deterioration of quality and reduction of flavor thereof, and a container therefor. The method comprises the steps of heating and disinfecting a solid substance (a) and a liquid substance (b) separately, mixing them after disinfection is completed, fill a bag (c) or a container with the substances so mixed and sealing the bag or container. In a case where only a solid substance is heated and disinfected, the solid substance is measured in a retainer (d) one pack at a time for disinfection in small lots. After disinfection is completed, a bag or a container is filled with the substance from the retainer (d) and then the bag or container is sealed. The disinfection is performed while the solid substance is stirred in the retainer by rotating the retainer (d). The apparatus comprises disinfecting treatment tanks (22, 42) for receiving and supporting a plurality of retainers (d) in an aligned state with a plurality of guide rails (22e) in such a manner that the retainers can be rolled and rotated and oscillating devices for oscillating the disinfecting tanks in a seesaw fashion. The retainer (d), i.e., the container (81) is constituted on its outer circumferential surface with a cylindrical cup for ease of rolling and rotation and its internal circumferential surface and its internal bottom surface are designed such that a solid substance can be stirred well.
