Abstract:
Adaptive quantization matrix for square and rectangular transform units in this invention is to improve the utilization of quantization matrix when square and rectangular quantization matrixes are supported. Instead of using two different sets of quantization matrixes for square transform units and rectangular transform units, this invention adaptively adjusts a quantization matrix so that the square transform unit and the rectangular transform unit could share the same quantization matrix. In this way, the number of quantization matrixes to be encoded is reduced. The benefits of the current invention are in the form of reducing the overhead bits for quantization matrixes and therefore improving the objective picture quality.
