Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, provided is a method for operating a radio access network (RAN) comprising a distributed unit (DU) and a centralized unit (CU), the DU comprising a radio link control (RLC) and the CU comprising a radio resource control (RRC), and the method comprises the steps of: establishing an RRC connection with a user equipment (UE); transmitting, to an access mobility function (AMF), a non-access stratum (NAS) connection establishment request message including information about the UE; receiving, from the AMF, initial configuration information including routing information about network functions (NFs) corresponding to the UE, the NFs comprising the AMF, a session management function (SMF), and a policy control function (PCF); transmitting, to the UE, RRC connection re-configuration information including the routing information about the NFs corresponding to the UE; receiving, through the DU, a control message including address information about one of the NFs from the UE; and transmitting the control message to the NF.
