Abstract:
A method of automatically adjusting the die thickness is characterized in that an inexpensive lock comprising a general-purpose motor for adjusting the die thickness is employed to adjust the die thickness in a short time and to simultaneously prevent an excessive current from passing through the motor. When a crosshead reaches the lock-up position before the die-touch condition is reached thereby or when the die-touch condition is established in the crosshead position ahead of a position (LO) where the set locking force can be produced, the crosshead is moved back from the position involved (LO). The die thickness adjusting motor is otherwise driven in a direction in which a rear platen is moved back (S14) after the platen is moved forth until the die-touch condition is reached. A servo motor is driven in a direction in which a movable platen is moved forth at the same speed as the rear platen moving back speed obtained by multiplying the overriding value corresponding to the position to which the crosshead has moved by the programmed speed so as to make the crosshead reach the aforementioned position (LO).
