Abstract:
Efficient pyrolysis of coal leading to production of useful substances, such
as coke, tar and combustible gas, can be accomplished by a process comprising
the steps of (1) feeding a coal feedstock from above a pyrolytic reaction zone
and causing the same to fall; (2) while moving the fallen coal feedstock upward,
bringing the same into countercurrent contact with a combustion gas introduced
from above to thereby induce a pyrolytic reaction; (3) separating a liquid product
from the coke produced by the pyrolysis by centrifugation and abstracting the
same from the reaction zone; (4) causing the hot coke having reached upside to
fall and abstracting the same from the reaction zone from below, and simultaneously
abstracting any coal gas generated by the pyrolysis during the period by suction
and supplying the same to a combustion gas generation zone to thereby produce
a combustion gas; and (5) carrying out a heat exchange between the pyrolytic reaction
mixture produced in the step (2) and the coal gas and hot coke of the step (4) on the
one hand and the falling coal feedstock of the step (1) on the other hand to thereby
preheat the coal feedstock.
