Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of decontaminating cork and making same more flexible in order to eliminate micro-organisms, spores, mouldy parts and compounds from the organochlorine family, in particular 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA), TCP, PCP and other chlorinated derivatives. The inventive method comprises one or more cycles consisting in: a) bringing the cork to be decontaminated into contact with a fluid, which may or may not contain additives, for a pre-determined period of time; and b) drying said cork. According to the invention, step a) is performed in a sealed container in which the cork is submerged in the aforementioned fluid at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure and, preferably, heat energy is supplied to the sealed container.
