Title:
METHOD FOR DETERMINING FATIGUE CRACK LIFE IN HIGH-PRESSURE HYDROGEN ENVIRONMENT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/121106
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A method for determining the fatigue crack life which a low-alloy steel will have at a high hydrogen pressure of 90 MPa or less, the method comprising subjecting the low-alloy steel to a rising load test in a high-pressure hydrogen environment to obtain a crack-growth threshold stress intensity factor KIH-R, presuming the fatigue-crack acceleration initiation point Kmax T of the low-alloy steel from the KIH-R, and conducting a fatigue crack life analysis on the basis of the Kmax T and the fatigue crack growth characteristics in high-pressure hydrogen of the low-alloy steel to determine the fatigue crack life. The high-pressure hydrogen environment used in the rising load test has the same pressure as the high-pressure hydrogen environment for which the Kmax T is presumed. The rising load test is conducted under the conditions of a temperature tolerance of ±5ºC.
