Provided are a method and device for a client to generate a key for multiple clients and a single server, being applied to a key management system. The key management system comprises N clients and a key server, N being a positive integer greater than or equal to 2. The method comprises: a first client generates a complete target private key and generates a target public key on the basis of the target private key, the first client being a client among the N clients; the first client divides the target private key into N+1 key components; by means of secure channels and in one-to-one correspondence, the first client transmits the N+1 key components and the target component to the N clients and the key server. The method described above solves the problem of existing key management systems having low security and flexibility, and achieves the technical effect of efficiently enhancing the security and flexibility of key management.
