Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dispensing a target number of discrete items, the method comprising: driving a conveyor to output items; performing continuous image capture at an image capture area located at an end section of the conveyor, the image capture area being set before the end of the conveyor and spanning the conveying direction of the conveyor; before being outputted, each item traversing the image capture area and undergoing image capture at least once; processing the obtained images in real time so as to determine the number of outputted items; stopping the conveyor before the number of outputted items reaches a target number; at the same time, continuing to determine the number of the outputted items until the items stop being outputted from the conveyor so as to obtain a first dispensed number; and dispensing the difference in the number of items so as to reach the target number of items. The image capture area is provided at an output section of the conveyor, and the orientation of the items is stable, which facilitates the detection of the shape and size of the items after visual image capture. By using the image capture area that spans the conveyor, image capture and counting can be completed without needing to traverse a detection platform or a counting platform, thus simplifying the structure and saving space.
