Abstract:
A method of improving the quality of a ligneous laminate comprising superposed ligneous plates by impregnation with a synthetic polyurethane resin primer. The ligneous laminate is cut into a product shape and this shape-finished ligneous laminate is impregnated with the primer under a pressure as high as 1 to 5 kg/cm2 for 15 to 60 minutes according to the thickness. The laminate is then held under a reduced pressure of 600 to 700 torr for 1 to 10 minutes. Hot air of 50 to 60°C is circulated at a reduced pressure of 300 to 400 torr to vaporize and remove the solvent only, e.g., toluene, from the laminate. Subsequently, hot air of 40 to 60°C is circulated at the same reduced pressure while keeping the relative humidity at 50 to 70% to conduct a reaction for strength elevation and a reaction for enhancing water repellency. Thus, the number of steps for production can be reduced while ensuring sufficient quality. Due to the simplification of working operations, the burden to be imposed on the workers is alleviated and the operating time is shortened. An improvement in surface quality by sagging prevention and a reduction in production cost by solvent reuse can also be attained.
