Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for the liquid-surface floating culture of microalgae without supplying new seed algae. Microalgae on a bottom surface are used as the seed algae. The present invention provides a method for culturing microalgae, said method including: a first culture step in which the microalgae are cultured in a culture medium inside an incubator, a biofilm is formed on the liquid surface of the culture medium, and the microalgae are retained on the bottom surface of the incubator; a step in which at least a portion of the biofilm formed on the liquid surface in the first culture step is collected, and at least some of the microalgae on the bottom surface are left in the incubator; and a second culture step in which the microalgae left on the bottom surface are cultured in the same incubator, and a biofilm is formed on the liquid surface of the culture medium. The present invention further provides a novel microalga that can form a biofilm on a liquid surface.
