Abstract:
Provided is a method for manufacturing a metal matrix composite material with which a metal matrix composite material which has a near net shape having high dimensional accuracy, and which has a high reinforcing material volume ratio (Vf%), can be obtained easily. In this manufacturing method for obtaining a metal matrix composite material in which a matrix material such as pure metal and a reinforcing material different from the matrix material are compounded, one and the same mold having a near net shaped space (recessed portion) formed in the interior thereof is used in a series of steps, including a reinforcing material molded body/filled body molding step, a preheating step and a casting step, wherein, in the casting step: the mold is filled with a material containing the reinforcing material; a reinforcing material molded body/filled body having internal pores is formed inside the mold; the mold including the formed reinforcing material molded body/filled body is preheated in the preheating step; the preheated mold containing the reinforcing material molded body/filled body is placed in an outer shell mold for composite material casting; and the pores in the reinforcing material molded body/filled body contained in the mold are impregnated and filled with molten matrix material, thereby compounding the matrix material and the reinforcing material.
