Abstract:
To increase the efficiency in a method for producing astaxanthin by culturing a microalga. A method for producing astaxanthin which comprises culturing a microalga and thus allowing the microalga to produce astaxanthin in the cells thereof, characterized in that, in light irradiation during the green stage culture period of the microalga, a blue light LED having a peak wavelength of 420-500 nm and a red light LED having a peak wavelength of 620-690 nm are used together and the photon flux density ratio of the blue light LED to the red light LED is adjusted to 2:3 to 20:1. It is preferred that the photon flux densities of the blue light LED and the red light LED are each 5-200 μmol/m2/s.
