Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing an olefin represented by the following general formula (II): RfCF=CH2 (wherein Rf is as defined below), which is characterized in that a dehalogenation reaction is performed by bringing a fluorohalide represented by the following general formula (I): RfCF2CH2X (wherein Rf represents H(CF2)n (n = 1-8) or F(CF2)n (n = 1-8), and X represents Br or I) into contact with a metal in a reaction medium which is composed a polar organic solvent, or a mixed solvent of water and a polar organic solvent. This method enables to produce an olefin at low cost with good selectivity and high yield under relatively mild reaction conditions.
