Abstract:

Provided are a method for producing paper, by which pitch can be removed efficiently, and a pitch removal agent. When producing paper using used paper, a pitch removal agent consisting of a poly(vinyl alcohol), which has an average degree of polymerization of 300-2500 and a degree of saponification of 70-88 mol.% and which satisfies numerical formula (A) when the absorbance of light having a wavelength of 490 nm is taken to be y (Abs) and the degree of saponification is taken to be x (mol.%), is added to a pulp slurry in a step of deinking by means of flotation and/or a step prior to the deinking step. y = -0.0297x+b (A) (here, 70 ≤ x ≤ 88 and 2.80 ≤ b ≤ 3.03)
