Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an industrially simple method for lowering the viscosity of a culture medium in order to recover a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid from a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid-producing bacterium. This problem can be solved by providing a method for producing a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid, the method including steps (a) and (b). Step (a) is a step for holding a culture medium containing cells containing the polyhydroxyalkanoic acid at a temperature of 40-80ºC, and step (b) is a step for adding an oxidizing agent to the culture medium obtained in step (a), adjusting the pH to 10.5-13.0, and holding at a temperature of 30-75ºC.
