Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYSULFONE HAVING REDUCED AMOUNT OF CONTAINED HALOGENS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/133641
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The problem addressed by the present invention is to produce a polysulfone that has a low amount of contained halogens and that resists an increase in melt viscosity during melt processing. The present invention pertains to a method for producing a polysulfone having a reduced amount of contained halogens by: heating to a predetermined temperature a mixture containing a halogen-terminated polysulfone, a basic compound, and a solvent; admixing a metal compound that generates water at the predetermined temperature; and then admixing an alkylating agent and/or an aralkylating agent. Preferably, an alkali metal salt of carbonic acid is used as the basic compound; preferably, an aprotic solvent is used as the solvent; and preferably, a metal hydroxide is used as the metal compound that generates water.
