Disclosed herein is an authentication service method for authenticating a user identity on an Internet web site. The method includes the steps of allowing a person whose real name is confirmed and which is issued with an authorized certification (hereinafter, referred to as "authenticated user") to log in an authentication server using the authorized certification, allowing the authenticated user to register an authorized id and a password with the authentication server, allowing the authenticated user to input the authorized id to an Internet web site instead of a social security number as his real name information on a user, allowing the web site to check whether the authorized id is registered and to request the authentication server to authenticate the user, allowing the authentication server to output a password input box on a terminal through which the authorized id is inputted, allowing the authentication server to compare a password inputted to the input box and the registered password, and if the two passwords are determined to be coincident with each other, allowing the authentication server to consider the user authentication process is successful, and if the two passwords are determined to be not coincident with each other, allowing the authentication server to consider the user authentication process is unsuccessful.
