Abstract:
It becomes possible to decompose and remove cyanide from water containing cyanide at a low concentration and also containing an iron-cyano complex with high efficiency by a treatment at a relatively low temperature without requiring the use of a large facility. A method for treating water containing cyanide at a low concentration and also containing an iron-cyano complex, said method comprising adding an alkali agent and a chlorine source to the water containing cyanide at a low concentration and also containing an iron-cyano complex to produce a mixture, and then maintaining the mixture for a predetermined period of time under such conditions that the pH value is 11 to 13, the concentration of free chlorine is 10 mg/L or more, and the temperature of the water is 40 to 100˚C inclusive, preferably 40˚C or higher and lower than 80˚C, more preferably 60˚C or higher and lower than 80˚C. If required, a heat source is added to warm the water to a temperature falling within the range from 40 to 100˚C inclusive.
