Title:
MICROBIAL FUEL CELL SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/143352
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A microbial fuel cell system 100 is provided with: a supply-discharge chamber 1 to which an electrolyte 4 is supplied and from which the electrolyte 4 is discharged; a negative electrode 6 immersed in the electrolyte, the negative electrode 6 holding an electrical-current-generating bacteria on the surface thereof; and a positive electrode 5 immersed in the electrolyte, at least a portion of the positive electrode 5 being exposed to a gas phase 10, and nitrifying bacteria being held on the surface of the positive electrode 5, excluding the portion of the positive electrode 5 that is exposed to the gas phase. Either the surface of the positive electrode, excluding the portion that is exposed to the gas phase, and/or the electrolyte holds denitrifying bacteria. With this type of microbial fuel cell system, organic-material treatment and nitrification/denitrification of the treatment liquid can be performed simultaneously without being limited by the amount of nitrogen in the treatment liquid. Also, it is possible to generate electricity along with the organic-material treatment, nitrification, and denitrification.
