Abstract:
Provided are: a microfluidic device which has a simple structure, enables prefusion culture, and also enables the formation of a cell layer barrier that keeps a uniform cell density; and a method for using the microfluidic device. The microfluidic device 1 is provided with a first substrate 10, a second substrate 20 which is partially bonded to the first substrate 10, a first flow path 25, a second flow path 26 and a third flow path 27 each of which extends between the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20, a plurality of first flow path ports 21, 22 which are connected to the first flow path 25, at least one second flow path port 23 which is connected to the second flow path 26, and at least one third flow path port 24 which is connected to the third flow path 27, in which a wall surface 25d of the first flow path 25 which is located on the main surface 20b side is closer to the main surface 20b than a wall surface 26d of the second flow path 26 which is located on the main surface 20b side and a wall surface 27d of the third flow path 27 which is located on the main surface 20b side.
