[Problem] To provide a mobile body communication device and a travel assistance method for achieving smooth transport and preventing excessive assistance by assisting with the prevention of collisions when turning in accordance with a signal display of a traffic signal for the direction of travel of a vehicle. [Solution] This mobile body communication device is provided to a mobile body, and is capable of providing collision prevention assistance when turning, so as to prevent a collision with another mobile body with which there is a risk of collision occurring due to said mobile body turning. The mobile body communication device is provided with: a communication unit that receives information that includes information representing the signal display of a traffic signal; and a control unit that determines a notification mode, and provides a prescribed notification that urges caution via a notification unit when turning. The control unit determines the notification mode regardless of the existence of the other mobile body when the signal display of the traffic signal for the direction of travel of the mobile body is a turning-permitted signal display with a signal display that does not permit the mobile body to move forward.
