Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a mode conversion element that can output light similar to the light strength distribution of LP21 in accordance with a unique high-order mode of an optical fiber (multimode fiber, few-mode fiber, multicore fiber). The mode conversion element (100) is provided with: a 2×1-type MMI waveguide (1) having two input ports and one output port and of which the thickness (d) of a core layer (12) permits first-order mode light; two input waveguides (2) of which one end is connected respectively to the input ports of the MMI waveguide (1); and one output waveguide (3) of which one end is connected to the output port of the MMI waveguide (1).
