Abstract:
Provided is molybdenum sulfide that is ribbon-shaped and particularly suitable for a hydrogen generation catalyst. Ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide, when observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM), 50 particles of said molybdenum sulfide having an average size of (length)×(width)×(thickness)= (500-10000 nm)×(10-1000 nm)×(3-200 nm); a method for producing the ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide using molybdenum oxide, said method being characterized by comprising (1) heating the molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 200-1000°C in the presence of a sulfur source, or (2) heating the molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 100-800°C in the absence of a sulfur source and then heating the same at a temperature of 200-1000°C in the presence of a sulfur source; and a hydrogen generation catalyst that comprises the ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide.
