Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte battery which comprises: a packaging material; a positive electrode which is contained in the packaging material; a negative electrode which is contained in the packaging material so as to be spatially apart from the positive electrode, and contains a particulate negative electrode active material; and a nonaqueous electrolyte filling the inside of the packaging material.  The particulate active material comprises particles containing a substance that has a lithium adsorption/desorption potential of not less than 1 V vs Li/Li+ but not more than 3 V vs Li/Li+, and a spinel-type lithium titanium complex oxide coating layer which is formed on the surface of each particle.
