[Problem] To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having high capacity, high density and large area, in which battery durability has been improved. [Solution] A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which has an electric power generating element comprising a positive electrode that is obtained by forming a positive-electrode active material layer containing a positive-electrode active material on the surface of a positive-electrode collector, a negative electrode that is obtained by forming a negative-electrode active material layer containing a negative-electrode active material on the surface of a negative-electrode collector, and a separator, wherein: the ratio of the rated capacity to the void volume of the positive electrode active material layer is 1.40 Ah/cc or more; the ratio of the battery area to the rated capacity is 4.0 cm2/Ah or more; and the rated capacity is 30 Ah or more. This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is configured such that variations in the void fraction of the positive electrode active material layer is 6.0% or less.
