Title:
OPTICAL COMPENSATION DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/158109
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention makes it possible to compensate a phase difference caused by oblique light to improve contrast while improving the image quality by suppressing uneven luminance during black display. This optical compensation device comprises: a first optical compensation unit (20a) for generating a phase difference that is almost the same as the phase difference generated from a liquid crystal panel but has a reversed sign, for the light entering at an incident angle within a prescribed incident angle range with respect to a vertical alignment type liquid crystal panel (15); and a second optical compensation unit (20b) for generating a phase difference in an in-plane direction. It is possible to suitably compensate the phase difference generated in the oblique light that passes through the liquid crystal panel by means of the first optical compensation unit, and to suppress uneven luminance during black display by means of the second optical compensation unit.
