Abstract:
The present invention shortens mounting time and reduces mounting costs by realizing connection between an optical waveguide chip and an optical fiber through passive alignment. This optical connection structure comprises: a PLC 101 which is an optical waveguide chip having an optical waveguide 103 and at least one groove formed on a substrate 110; and at least one optical fiber 102 which fits the groove of the PCL 101. The PLC 101 is provided with the optical waveguide 103, at least one grating coupler 105 which is optically connected to the optical waveguide 103, and at least one groove which is formed at a position near the grating coupler 105 in a clad layer 109 constituting the optical waveguide 103. The grating coupler 105 and the optical fiber 102 which fits the groove such that an end surface is positioned near the grating coupler 105, are optically connected.
