Abstract:
An optical disk device where an objective lens having a photocatalyst substance
layer is cleaned by applying activating light to the lens with an optical disk
inserted in the device. The optical disk device has a laser source for emitting
laser light for recording or reproducing information, the objective lens having
the photocatalyst substance layer formed on its surface and collecting the laser
light on the optical disk, and activating-light source placed at a position from
which the activating light for activating the photocatalyst substance layer
is emitted to allow the light enter the photocatalyst substance layer placed
over the objective lens. Applying the activating light to the objective lens
by causing the light to be reflected at the optical disk cleans the lens even if
the optical disk is kept inserted in the device,or even if information is being
reproduced.
