Abstract:

An embodiment of the present disclosure relates to an optical fiber whereby transmission loss is further reduced. This optical fiber comprises silica-based glass, and is provided with a core including a central axis, and a cladding. The cladding surrounds the core and has a lower refractive index than the core. The core includes phosphorus, chlorine, and fluorine. The core furthermore includes an alkali metal element or an alkaline earth metal element. In a cross section of the optical fiber orthogonal to the central axis, the ratio Rp/Ra of the radius Rp of a phosphorus-containing region with respect to the radius Ra of the core is 0.3 or greater.
