Abstract:
An optical head using a short-wavelength light represented by a blue-violet laser beam, wherein deterioration of resin molding a photodetector is prevented. The optical head comprises a light source emitting a first-wavelength light, a lens condensing light onto an optical recording medium, a wavelength conversion unit for converting at least part of a first-wavelength reflection light from the optical recording medium into a light having a second wavelength longer than the first wavelength, and a reflection photodetector for detecting the second-wavelength light. Since the second-wavelength light entering the reflection photodetector has its energy further lowered, deterioration of resin, if the photodetector is molded with resin, is prevented.
