Abstract:
An optical module 1 is provided with: an optical element 10 having, on a front surface 10SA, an external electrode 12, and a light emitting section 11 that emits optical signals; a wiring board 20, which has, on a first main surface 20SA, a connection electrode 22 coupled to the external electrode 12 of the optical element 10, and which also has a through hole H20, i.e., an optical path; an optical fiber 60, which is disposed so as to be optically coupled to the optical element 10, and which transmits the optical signals; a bonding member 30, which bonds the optical element 10 and the wiring board 20 to each other, and which seals a bonding section between the external electrode 12 and the connection electrode 22, said bonding section being disposed so as to surround the optical path of the optical signals; and a refractive index matching material 40, with which the optical path is filled. The refractive index matching material 40 is spread around the bonding member 30 via a gap G30 of the bonding member 30.
