An optical nonlinear evaluation device (1) can accurately evaluate optical nonlinearity of Kerr medium according to a phase difference caused by mutual phase modulation by Kerr medium. The optical nonlinear evaluation device (1) includes: a polarization Sagnac interference optical path (3) where Kerr medium (4) is arranged; an optical pulse light source (7) for emitting a signal light (Dsig); a polarization beam splitter (PBS1) for dividing the signal light (Dsig) into a signal light (Hsig) and a signal light (Vsig) polarized into a direction orthogonally intersecting the signal light (Hsig), supplying the signal light (Hsig) to one side of the Kerr medium (4), and supplying a signal light (Vsig) to the other side of the Kerr medium; separation means for introducing a control light (Vcont) for changing the phase difference between the signal light (Hsig) and the signal light (Vsig) into the signal light (Hsig) and isolating the control light (Vcont) from the signal light (Hsig) which has transmitted through a plate glass (14) and the Kerr medium (4); and a detection unit (10) arranged for detecting a phase difference between the signal light (Hsig) and the signal light (Vsig).
