Abstract:
This optical phase modulator is provided with: an electrooptical material layer that has a structure extending in at least a first direction and has a refractive index which changes due to the Pockels effect or the Kerr effect; an electrolytic layer that has a structure extending in at least the first direction and that is in contact with the electrooptical material layer; first and second electrodes for applying a voltage to the electrooptical material layer and the electrolytic layer; and a control circuit that modulates the phase of light propagating through the electrooptical material layer or the electrolytic layer in the first direction by changing the refractive index of the electrooptical material layer through control of the voltage.
