Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical phased array (OPA) capable of performing a function for beam steering or beam scanning based on a relatively small phase shift without the need for a complex calibration process for determining a phase-shift compensation amount. The optical phased array comprises: a bus waveguide that is constituted by an optical waveguide formed on a substrate and allows input light to propagate therethrough; a plurality of photocouplers provided on the bus waveguide, each of the photocouplers extracting a portion of the light propagating through the bus waveguide; a plurality of waveguide lines each propagating the light extracted by the plurality of photocouplers; and a phase shifter provided on the bus waveguide. The plurality of waveguide lines has mutually equal optical path lengths. A phase shifter is provided on each section of the bus waveguide between adjacent photocouplers.
