Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an optical waveguide connection structure in which a mode field surface emitted from a Si waveguide more closely approaches a plane wave, and coupling efficiency of a Si waveguide and an optical fiber is enhanced. An optical waveguide connection structure 1 in which a Si waveguide 100 and an optical fiber 120 are connected via an adhesive layer 130, wherein the Si waveguide 100 has a core 101 in which the cross-sectional area thereof in a direction perpendicular to the propagation direction of light decreases progressively toward the optical fiber 120, and a cladding 105 for covering the core 101, the optical fiber 120 has a fiber core 121, a fiber cladding 122 for covering the fiber core 121, and a recess 123 formed in an end surface on the side thereof facing the Si waveguide 100, the adhesive layer 130 fills the recess 123 and a gap g between an end surface of the Si waveguide 100 and an end surface of the optical fiber 120, and the refractive index of the adhesive layer 130 is greater than the refractive index of the fiber core 121 of the optical fiber 120.
