Abstract:
In order to provide an optical waveguide element that can suppress damage to a substrate during the process of connecting electric connective wiring to a control electrode, an optical waveguide element that includes a substrate exhibiting an electro-optic effect, an optical waveguide formed on the substrate, and a control electrode (for example, a signal electrode) for controlling a lightwave conveyed through the optical waveguide, is characterized in that: the control electrode imparts direct voltage; the thickness of the electrode is equal to or less than 10μm; a connection pad, which is formed on a part of the control electrode, is included in order to electrically connect the control electrode and an external electric circuit; the surface area of the planar surface of the connection pad is equal to or greater than 22000μm2; and the whole thickness of the connection pad is greater than 10μm.
