Abstract:
Disclosed are: a method for protecting an organic layer from the damage caused by the formation of a cathode by a sputtering method; and an organic EL produced by the method and having high stability. The organic EL comprises an insulating layer (12), a lower electrode film (13a) arranged on the insulating layer (12), an organic layer (21) arranged on the lower electrode film (13a) and an upper electrode film (28) arranged on the organic layer (21), and is so adapted that the organic layer (21) emits light upon the application of a positive charge to the lower electrode film (13a) and the application of a negative charge to the upper electrode film (28). In the organic EL, an electrically conductive protective film (23) is formed on the organic layer (21) by a vapor deposition method and the upper electrode film (28) is formed on the protective film (23) by a sputtering method. Therefore, the organic layer (21) cannot be damaged by the sputtering method.
