An organic EL element including a first light-emitting layer and a second light-emitting layer, wherein: the first light-emitting layer includes a first host material; the second light-emitting layer includes a second host material; the first host material and the second host material are different from each other; the first light-emitting layer includes at least a first light-emitting compound that demonstrates emission of light having a maximum peak wavelength of 453 nm or less; the second light-emitting layer includes at least a second light-emitting compound that demonstrates emission of light having a maximum peak wavelength of 500 nm or less; the first light-emitting compound and the second light-emitting compound are the same or different from each other; and the triplet energy T1 (H1) of the first host material and the triplet energy T1 (H2) of the second host material satisfy the relationship in the following mathematical expression (expression 1).　(Expression 1): T1 (H1) > T1 (H2)
