Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a dispersion promoter, an adhesion improver, and a sizing agent with which it is possible to impart hydrophilicity and adhesiveness to the surface of various carbon materials and impart sizing properties to fibrous carbon materials by a simple method without requiring special techniques or equipment for dispersion and surface treatment and without harming the inherent properties of the carbon materials, and also to provide surface-modified carbon materials and carbon composite materials of which the surface is modified using the adhesion improver/sizing agent. [Solution] It was discovered that a copolymer (A) containing 2-oxazoline-based monomers (a) and low-Tg vinyl-based monomers (b) as structural units promotes the dispersion of carbon materials in other types of materials, improves the surface adhesiveness of carbon materials, and exhibits unique performance in imparting sizing properties to fibrous carbon materials. In addition, it was possible to obtain surface-modified carbon materials to which adhesiveness has been imparted and various types of carbon composite materials by reacting with various carbon materials using an adhesion improver that comprises the copolymer.
