Provided is a technique for appropriately controlling the transfer order of pallets. This pallet transfer system (10) comprises: a transfer device (300) which transfers a pallet on which a workpiece can be mounted; a pallet storage unit (200) which stores a plurality of pallets; a work station (500) on which a worker mounts the workpiece on the transferred pallet; a machine tool (400) which machines, at the work station (500), the workpiece mounted on the pallet; and a control device (50) which controls the transfer device (300). In a case where a first pallet is located on the machine tool (400) and a second pallet is located on the work station (500), the control device (50) transfers the second pallet from the work station (500) to the pallet storage unit (200) upon completion of the machining of the workpiece mounted on the first pallet, and transfers the first pallet from the machine tool (400) to the work station (500) after completion of the transfer of the second pallet from the work station (500) to the pallet storage unit (200), or in parallel with the transfer of the second pallet from the work station (500) to the pallet storage unit (200).
