A storage device (2) removably mounted to a discrimination device (1) of a paper sheet discriminating and storing device is provided with: a housing chamber (7); a standby chamber (24) that receives paper sheets supplied from the discrimination device (1); a pressure plate (18) that is disposed so as to be movable between an initial position in the standby chamber (24) and an extrusion position in the housing chamber (7); and an X-linking device (20) that has a passive portion (45) and moves the pressure plate (18) between the initial position and the extrusion position. The discrimination device (1) for determining the authenticity of inserted paper sheets is provided with: a rocking lever (10) that is disposed so as to be rotatable around a rocking shaft (30); a drive device (11) that rotates the rocking lever (10); and an abutting portion (16) that is provided on the rocking lever (10), close to the X-linking device (20). When the rocking lever (10) is rotated by the drive device (11), the abutting portion (16) moves on an arc (70), the tangent (71) of which forms an angle (θ) in the range of 75 to 105 degrees with respect to a surface (46) of the passive portion (45) of the X-linking device (20), and the abutting portion (16) makes separable contact with the passive portion (45) and presses the passive portion (45).
