Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a polyacrylamide-based papermaking additive having an excellent paper strength-enhancing effect; paper in which the papermaking additive is used; and a paper manufacturing method in which the papermaking additive is used. A papermaking additive containing an amphoteric polyacrylamide containing, as copolymerization components, (A) (meth)acrylamide, (B) a (meth)allyl sulfonic acid, (C) an anionic vinyl monomer having a carboxyl group, and (D) a cationic vinyl monomer having a quaternary ammonium, wherein the papermaking additive is characterized in that the ratio of the anion equivalent and cation equivalent of the amphoteric polyacrylamide is 0.05 to 1.7, the octanol/water partition coefficient of the amphoteric polyacrylamide is -1.44 to -0.60, and the surface tension of the amphoteric polyacrylamide is 66 mN/m to less than 74 mN/m.
