Abstract:
This particle accelerator causes a charged particle beam to circulate and accelerate as a circulating beam and then outputs part of the circulating beam as an output beam, and comprises: a first deflection part and a second deflection part that have a deflection electromagnet; a first linear part, a second linear part, and a third linear part that do not have a deflection electromagnet; and a control part. An earlier stage output deflector of the first linear part deflects a part of the circulating beam toward the inside of the circulation track of the circulating beam so as to separate the output beam from the circulating beam. A later stage output deflector of the third linear part deflects, toward another direction outside the circulation track of the circulating beam, the output beam that was separated from the circulating beam by the earlier stage output deflector. The control part controls at least a quadrupole electromagnet such that phase advancement of betatron oscillation of the output beam is 270±45 degrees in the section from the earlier stage output deflector to the later stage output deflector.
