Abstract:
A novel patterned glass article which is improved in properties required of building materials and has a high-grade appearance; and a process for producing the glass article. The patterned crystallized-glass article (1) comprises: a base layer (2) made of a crystallized glass having a precipitated-crystal amount of 5-50 mass%; and a surface layer (3) comprising a reaction layer (3a) which is formed by reacting a crystallized glass with an amorphous glass and with which one side of the base layer (2) is substantially wholly covered and a light-transmitting part (3d) made of an amorphous-glass part (3b) with which 20-80% of the surface area of the reaction layer (3a) is scatteringly covered. The process, which is for producing the crystallized-glass article (1), comprises: laying granules of a crystalline glass in a refractory vessel to form a granular layer; dispersing granules of an amorphous glass on the granular layer in such an amount that the surface of the layer is substantially wholly covered therewith and that the surface layer (3) to be formed through burning partly includes a light-scattering part (3c) comprising a reaction layer (3a) formed by reaction with crystalline-glass granules present in an upper part of the granular layer, to thereby form a layered object; and burning the layered object in a temperature range where the viscosities of the glasses are 104-105 P.
