A photocatalyst member comprising a translucent matrix material and a plurality of photocatalyst particles held in the matrix material so as to be exposed on a surface of the matrix material. The photocatalyst member is characterized in that one region that includes an exposed surface of each of the plurality of photocatalyst particles from the matrix material has a smaller band gap than the other regions.
