Abstract:

An image pickup device is characterized by comprising a photodetection unit (1) which has a photocathode (2) which emits photoelectrons in response to the incidence of light, a semiconductor detection device (3) which has an electron incidence face (3a) on which photo-electrons are incident and a vacuum case in which the photoelectric face (2) is provided on its one inside surface and the semiconductor detection device (3) is provided on its another inside surface facing the one inside surface, and a cooling means (9) which cools the semiconductor detection device (3) side of the vacuum case.
