Title:
PISTON FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PISTON
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/017586
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine, whereby requirements for high heat insulating properties and for a high bond strength between a base material of the piston and a low-heat conductivity part can be both satisfied, and a method for manufacturing the piston. [Solution] A piston (1) wherein a low-heat conductivity part (5) comprises a porous member (6), said porous member (6) being configured from borosilicate glass that has a lower heat conductivity than an aluminum alloy base material (1') of the piston (1), and an aluminum alloy material (1a), said aluminum alloy material (1a) being a part of the base material (1') and impregnated in the inside of the porous member. In a method for manufacturing the piston, said method comprising sintering a mixture of a first powder (8), which comprises the glass powder, with a second powder (9), which comprises a sodium chloride powder, to form a molded body, putting the molded body in hot water, thus dissolving the second powder to form voids (9a) in the porous member, and then casting the piston by using a vacuum casting mold, the aluminum alloy is allowed to penetrate into the voids of the porous member and impregnated therein so that the porous member is unified with the base material of the piston and thus the bond strength is enhanced.
