Abstract:
The present invention relates to a playback device and playback method as well as a file generation device and file generation method which, when acquiring an audio stream and a video stream encoded with a lossless compression method, make it possible to acquire a video stream of an optimal bit rate. A segment file acquisition unit acquires an audio stream encoded with a lossless DSD method prior acquisition of a video stream corresponding to the audio stream, and detects the bit rate of the audio stream. On the basis of the bit rate detected by the segment file acquisition unit, a selection unit selects a video stream to be acquired out of multiple video streams of different bit rates. This invention can be applied for example in video playback terminals.
